Family of Liebmann Adler

About this blog

I plan to use this blog to share what I've learned about the Hess and Adler families of Florstadt. If you are -- or may be -- a descendant of one of these ancestors, I hope you'll get in touch with me.

I will be sharing information only about deceased family members. If you contact me, I will not use your name in the blog. This initiative is to share information about our ancestors only.

I will be delighted, however, to correspond with you privately, so please do get in touch. My email address is in my profile.

This post describes the family of Liebmann Adler as I've been able to learn it. Before you dive into it, I recommend that you read the first post in this blog to get the context of the family.

Family of Liebmann Adler

Liebmann Adler was the son of Salomon Adler and Salomon's first wife, Hilde Liebmann. Liebmann Adler was born in Nieder-Florstadt in 1825, followed by his brother Michael in 1827. (chart - Salomon Adler's wives and children)

Liebmann established a business and raised his family in Friedberg, a nearby town. The information about his family is contained in the book Jüden in Friedberg, by Hanno Müller.  Liebmann was a Spezereikrämer in Friedberg – a spice merchant.  (exhibit - page from the book with information about Liebmann)

Liebmann was married twice, first to Röschen Rülb and then to Taübchen “Therese” Neu.

_____________________________________________________________

He had five children with Röschen Rülb. (chart - Liebmann's family with Röschen Rülb)

Hannchen Adler, born in 1855 in Friedberg.  Also known as Hilda. Married Henry Pulvermacher. No further information.

Auguste Adler, born in 1856 in Friedberg.  Also known as Augustine. Married Henri MoreauNo further information.

Charles Adler, born in 1857 in Friedberg. His birth name was Kaufmann. Charles emigrated to America in 1874 at the age of 17. He married Lena Dealham, and they had one son.

  • Stanley Dealham Adler, born in 1893.

Stanley married Hortense Amelia Strouse, and they had two sons.

    • Stanley Dealham Adler, Jr., born in 1923. Married Betty Jean Reiber and had a son and a daughter.
    • Charles Adler, born in 1927. Married Alice Louise Foster and had a son and two daughters.

Elise Adler, born in 1859 in Friedberg. Married Henri Oudin.  No further information.

Adolph Adler, born in 1861 in Friedberg. His birth name was Abraham. He emigrated to America in 1894 under the name Arthur. Adolph married Carrie Wiener, and they settled in Champaign, Illinois. Adolph and Carrie had two children.

  • Rose Adler, born in 1887
  • Amelia Adler, born in 1893

Rose married Isaac Kuhn and had two daughters.

    • Ruth Kuhn, born in 1914. Married William Youngerman and had two sons and a daughter.
    • Helen Kuhn, born in 1918. Married William Wiese and had two sons.

Amelia married Lee Reineberg and had a daughter and a son.

Liebmann married Taübchen “Therese” Neu very soon after Röschen died in about 1862.  They had six children together. (chart - Liebmann's family with Taübchen “Therese” Neu)

Liebmann died in 1902; Taübchen survived him.

Louis Adler (chart - Louis's family)

Born in 1863 in Friedberg.  Louis emigrated to America and married Carrie Steppacher in Philadelphia PA in 1894.  They had a daughter, Margaret Adler, in 1894.  I am in contact with Margaret’s granddaughters.

Louis subsequently married Sadie Frank and had a son, Louis F. Adler, Jr.  I have not found evidence of Louis F. in later records.

Margretha Adler

Born in 1864 in Friedberg.  No further information, but see Clotilda below.

Clotilda Adler (chart - Clotilda's family)

Born about 1865 in Friedberg.  Clotildla emigrated to America and married Henry Cohen in 1892.  They had six children, Norman, Julius, Sylvan, Frieda, August, and Louis.

  • Julius Cohen had a daughter, Helen; I am in contact with her grandchildren.
  • August Cohen had a son, Lewis; he has living descendants, but I haven't been able to contact them.
  • Sylvan Cohen died in infancy.
  • Norman Cohen, born in 1894 in New York City. No further information.
  • Frieda Cohen, born in 1897 in New York City. No further information.
  • Louis Cohen, born in 1907 in New York City. No further information.

Clotilda is not mentioned among Liebmann’s children in Jüden in Friedberg, but her marriage record in New York includes an unambiguous reference to Liebmann and Theresa as her parents.  Since her birth date is so close to Margretha’s, and there is no further evidence of Margretha, it is likely that Margretha and Clotilda are the same person.

Nathan Adler

Born in 1866 in Friedberg.  He emigrated to America and died in Bristol, Bucks, Pennsylvania in 1936.  I have not found evidence of a family.

Bertha Adler

Born in 1870 in Friedberg.  She died in infancy.

Sanford (Sally) Adler (chart - Sanford's family)

Born in 1874 in Friedberg.  Presumably, he was named after his grandfather, Salomon.  He emigrated to America and adopted the name Sanford.  He married Clara Wiener in Pennsylvania, and they had two children.

  • Theresa Rose Adler
  • Leonard Adler

Theresa married Augustus Norton Drake II; no evidence of children.

Leonard married Marjorie Ann Greenebaum and had three children; I am in contact with two of them.  He subsequently married Dolores Hornung.
